What is an Appraiser? |
| |
An appraiser is the person who decides the market value of a home based on its condition and the selling prices of comparable homes recently sold in the area. The appraiser computes a fair estimate of market value to help the lender decide a reasonable loan amount. |

What are the requirements to become a Registered Trainee Appraiser? |

To become a Registered Trainee Appraiser in the state of Alabama you must:
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have high school diploma or GED.
• Complete and pass the state approved 75 hour course (at least 15 hours covering USPAP).
• Submit an application with transcripts, request for education credit forms and appropriate fee to the Alabama Real Estate Appraisers Board to be eligible to take state exam.
• After obtaining license you must work under the direct supervision of a Licensed or Certified Appraiser to obtain experience.

What is required to maintain a license? |
| |
In order to maintain an active license an appraiser is required to submit their renewal forms with appropriate remittance to the Board no later than September 30th. (September 30th postmarks will be honored.) Proof of Continuing education will not be due with the annual fees on the even number licensure years, but will be due in connection with the odd number years licensing fees renewal. Appraisers must submit proof of 28 hours of continuing education credit with their odd number year renewal fees/application. At least 7 of these hours must be in approved USPAP. Remember that every appraiser must have a full fifteen-hour USPAP course with exam at least once every six years. |

A trainee appraiser is required to work under the direct supervision of a Certified or Licensed real property Appraiser. They can appraise any property that the supervising appraiser is permitted to appraise. |
